This page will teach you all the basics of mountainboarding.
How to Turn: To turn simply lean one way or another. The harder you lean, the harder you'll turn. Simple as that.
Powerslide: This is the main way you can stop on a mountainboard, if you don't have brakes. Just go down a hill (preferably something dirt with low traction) and turn sharply heelside into the hill, grabbing the board indy style and leaning back. This should cause you to slide and stop. It's a little scary at first, but can be perfected in no time.
Other Ways of Stopping: Another way to stop other than powerslides is to just turn up the hill. This works best if you have a lot of room to move. If not, powersliding is probably your best option.
Jump: Jumping on a mountainboard is a really easy thing to learn. Just jump. But I'm going to talk about jumping off kickers and stuff. Ok, so hit the ramp with your knees bent, then jump and pull your knees up when your in the air. Do a grab if you want (See below), then kick your legs down to land it.
Grabs: This section will talk about the basic grabs (indy, nosegrab, melon, etc.). Make sure you can jump before you attempt a grab. Hit a ramp just like a jump and when your knees are pulled in simply grab the board however you want to. The hardest part is bringing the board up high enough to grab. After a little practice, all the basic grabs can be accomplished easily.
Frontside 180: Frontside 180's are the easiest 180's, in my opinion. Just wind your arms in the backside direction, jump, and unwind. Then the rotation should get you to about 90 degrees, half way around. Then just push your legs, not necessarily your upper body the rest of the way and land it. This trick can be done off a ramp or on flat ground. Smaller riders may have more difficulty with spins than larger riders.
Backside 180: This trick is a little harder than the frontside 180 because you generally spin faster and are spinning while facing backwards. Wind your arms in the opposite direction and jump. Don't worry about the rotation on this trick so much as just keeping the board level as you spin. This trick should take you a little while to perfect, but once you do you can show off to your friends.
Noseroll: This trick is easiest if you're riding switch. Just wind your arms in the opposite direction you want to spin, and then unwind and lean forward at the same time. Pivot around the front wheels, and land it. This trick might be easier if you imagine jumping and then pushing the nose down.
Curb Stall: Ride up to a curb at a medium speed and jump to stall on it.v You can stall a couple different ways. The most common is a 50-50 stall. For this, turn 90 degrees in the air and land with both trucks on the curb and the deck parallel to the curb. Then jump off the curb and ride away.
